A case was registered on September 22 based on a complaint filed by Anshul Singhal, a court record keeper at Tis Hazari Court.

“The accused, using the name ‘Akib Akhlak’, appeared on court video calls on September 16 and 17 wearing only undergarments and was seen smoking and drinking,” said Raja Banthia, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), in a statement.

The officer said even after repeatedly asking him to exit the videoconference, he allegedly remained online, causing disruption. Police subsequently launched an investigation into the incident.

Technical analysis of IP addresses and call data records indicated that the suspect used multiple fake email IDs and frequently changed locations, making it difficult for authorities to trace him.

“Through local intelligence and manual searches, the team tracked his location and arrested him from Chaman Park, Old Mustafabad, his residence,” the officer said.

During questioning, Imran confessed that he learnt about the WebEx video conferencing platform through an acquaintance and joined the court sessions out of curiosity.

He allegedly admitted to attending the virtual court sessions in his undergarments while smoking cigarettes and consuming alcohol.

The accused used a mobile phone, a SIM card, and a router, which the police has recovered.
